A-60 megawatt hydroelectric power plant is to be set up at Sekyere Himang, Wassa East District, Ghana. The US$3m worth project is under the supervision of the China International Water and Electric Corporation with the support of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum. The power plant is aimed at meeting the high demands of electricity in the country.
Last thursday, discussions on the effects and benefits of the project were held by the representatives from the Ministry of Energy, Ghana Water Company, Environmental Protection Agency and traditional authorities from the various communities with the residents who will be affected by the hydroelectric power plant project.
China International Water and Electric Corporation has acquired 1,500 hectares of land for construction of 1,650 houses in Tsitsimhwe, Bosomase, Okyerekrom, Adukwah, Nyamebekyere and Yeriyebiahwe for the displaced residents when the hydroelectric power plant project kick off.
Ghana has also invested in the construction of gas power plants, including the Atuabo gas power plant.
