7 Construction Industry Trends to look out for in 2019

Posted on

The construction industry is fast adopting new trends in technology. Even more growth is expected in 2019 with the new popularity of the following technological trends.

1. Augmented Reality:

This is the ability to visualize the real world through a camera lens. Though, costly, this will open new opportunities for the industry as it changes the way they build and project. With this technology, builders can plot and plan for more safe constructions before commencing work on site.

2. Drones:

The use of drones in construction is beneficial in many ways. It saves a lot of time as it enables engineers and surveyors to survey spans of land in few minutes. This would have taken weeks to accomplish normally. It will also save money, give more accurate readings and less man power will be required.

3. Wearable technology:

The use of wearable technology like Google Glass, 3D glasses and armbands for communication will be on the increase in 2019. This will enhance seamless and safe operations, as it makes communication more effective, and can also be used to track workers in the event of emergency.

4. Self-healing Concrete:

2019 will witness an increase in the use of self-healing concrete, as the demand for concrete is expected to increase drastically, being the most widely produced and consumed material in the industry.

5. Increased prefabrication and modularization:

Prefabrication is aided by the 3D printing technology, and an increase is expected in 2019.

6. Robotics:

An increase is expected in the use of robots in construction
in 2019. Even though it may come at high cost, it will be worth it in the long run. They will be able to tie rebar, lay bricks and perform more human-operated construction tasks.

7. Building Information Modeling (BIM):

BIM is “the digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility.” including information about geographic locations, properties of building components, light analysis and spatial relationships. It’s a trend that will change the way the industry operates in 2019.
