The Borno State government recently awarded a contract of N3.6bn for the construction of five faculties and senate building at the proposed State University in Maiduguri. This announcement was made by Governor Kashim Shettima in an interactive session with stakeholders in Maiduguri.
“We are not in a haste to start the university because we believe that certain fundamental issues must be addressed before its take off. Our plan is to establish a world-class university that can stand the test of time in all ramifications because anything worth doing is worth doing well. We are not interested in establishing a glorified secondary school as the case is in most state universities. We want to set up a university that has befitting physical structures and standard facilities that can be addressed as truly world-class.”
He further stated that the state government would seek accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) in the third quarter of this year when the project is expected to have been completed.
The university would kick off as soon as it is accredited.
