Magnificent right….. Well this structure designed by the German agency: Juerge Engel Architects will be the third- largest mosque in the world after the Islamic pilgrimage in Mecca and Medina.
With a prayer hall that can accommodate up to 37,000 people, the mosque is one of the largest religious buildings in the Islamic world. The project has a cultural centre, an Imam School, a library, apartments, a fire station, a museum, and Islamic center search. The project covers an area of 400,000 square meters, and is located less than six kilometres east of the historic city center.
The competition was won in 2008 by the agency Jürgen Engel Architects and engineers Krebs und Kiefer International group based in Darmstadt, Germany. The contract was endorsed during a signing ceremony in the presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and construction of the complex began in early 2012. Commissioning is scheduled for 2016.
